New Delhi: After spending close to 15 months behind the bars, former telecom minister A Raja will finally begin arguments for his bail applications. Sources say the CBI will oppose his bail but Raja's legal team will seek relief on the following grounds:
- Raja has been in jail since February, 2011. Since all his fellow co-accused have been granted bail, so it's about time Raja too was given that relief.
- The evidence in this case is documentary in nature and Raja needs to be out of the jail to assist his legal team in following those documents.
- The third reason is that he has to be present before the JPC and PAC, which are also carrying out a similar probe into the scam.
- The fourth reason that his legal team may give is that he is a person who has deep roots into the society and therefore, looking at his records he should be granted bail.
