Bangalore: Baby Afreen, the three-month-old baby, who was allegedly beaten and abused by her father, is in a semi-comatose state and doctors say that her condition has worsened.
The Vani Vilas hospital, where Afreen is admitted, has sought help from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) for Afreen's treatment. Afreen continued to be on life support on Wednesday.
Resident Medical Superintendent (RMS) Somegowda said the baby has hurried respiration of 30-40 per minute against the normal 20-25 per minute and also Pathycardia (increased heart rate). "She is in a semi-comatose state and this is not a good sign," he said.
Her father who allegedly tortured the 3-month-old, because he wanted a boy, has been sent to jail. Her mother, who allegedly witnessed the abuse wants the hardest punishment for him.
Doctors at the Vani Vilas Hospital said her condition was critical and it may take time for her to recover.
"She is still getting convulsions, which are not under control yet. This shows that still problems are there. We are giving standard medical attention," said Dr Siddapa, dean and director, Bangalore Medical College.
The hospital also said, "The baby had blood mixed with her stools. She is still in ventilation. She had blood transfusion. We can have a full assessment only after she comes out of the ventilator."
Baby Afreen was admitted to the paediatric intensive care in the hospital on Sunday after allegedly being beaten up by her father Umar Farooq. She had cigarette burns on her head and a dislocated neck.
