'Battered' baby girl battles for life in Bangalore

CNN-IBN | 09-Apr 09:48 AM

Bangalore: A three-month-old baby girl, Afreen, has been battling for her life in a city hospital in Bangalore. She was admitted with cigarette burns on the forehead and posterior and neck dislocated.

The baby's mother claims that it was her husband who tried to kill the baby.

Afreen's mother Reshma Bhanu claims that the baby's father Farooq was enraged at Reshma delivering a girl three months ago.

Hospital authorities said the baby's condition was critical and she was suffering from a haemorrhage.

Reshma Bhanu claimed that her husband wanted to kill his daughter and that her in laws didn't even want to admit Afreen to the hospital.

It is now learnt that this was Farooq's second wedding and that he divorced the first time because his first wife wanted to study and he didn't agree to it.

The police have, meanwhile, arrested a man, believed to be her father.

The Child Rights Commission of Karnataka has taken up the case now. The representatives visited the mother and the child at the hospital.
