FA charges Terry over alleged race abuse

Associated Press | 27-Jul 22:50 PM

London: The English Football Association has charged Chelsea captain John Terry with racially abusing opponent, two weeks after he was cleared by a court of the same offense.

The FA says it considered the evidence from the trial before charging Terry with directing abuse at QPR defender Anton Ferdinand in a Premier League match last October.

The FA says it is alleged Terry "included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or color and/or race of Anton Ferdinand."

The FA case was put on hold during the police investigation, which ended with Terry being cleared by a London magistrate of a racially aggravated public order offense. The FA says Terry remains available to play for England and has until August 3 to respond to the charge.
