New Delhi: 'Safe' has already been released in America but the Indian audiences will have the chance to see the film on May 4 only. The film stars Jason Statham in the lead role who is on a mission to rescue a 12 year old girl. Statham plays a former New York Police Department officer who dares to fight the dreaded Russian mafia to set a small Chinese girl free from the clutches of the abductors. He also needs to face the high level corruption in NYPD during his endeavour.
Directed by Boaz Yakin, the film fetched mixed reviews from the critics in overseas market. Said to be a typical Hollywood formula film, Safe's biggest bait is its hero Jason Statham, who has developed a niche audience base for himself.
Indian audiences have remained more receptive to the action stars than the romantic heroes of Hollywood in the past. It hasn't been long when Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan were among the favourite Western actors in India. Other Hollywood stars such as Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt also became popular in India but their image primarily remained of action stars.
Jason Statham's 'Transporter' series had received good response among the Indian audiences, so the makers would be hoping for a nice show again.
Jason Statham's career graph shows his rise as a film star. He has travelled a long way since 1998 when his first film 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' hit the screens. He has worked with several acclaimed directors such as Guy Ritchie and Gary Gray in a career of 14 years.
However, 'Safe' is likely to face difficulties in getting initial audiences because 'Hugo' is also releasing alongside it.
