Mumbai: Nearly nine people died and over 40 people were injured when an under-construction building in Thane collapsed partially on Thursday evening. The incident took place at 6.30 pm following which fire tenders and medical teams were rushed to the spot. Sources say that many more are feared buried under the debris. Rescue operations are still underway.
According to Deputy Collector Manoj Gohad, the building in the Shil Dhaigar locality was unauthorised and was occupied up to the fourth floor. The building had a total of seven storeys.
Municipal Commissioner RA Rajeev and District Collector P Velarasu are supervising the relief operations.
