President poll: Pranab to write to Mamata

New Delhi: Presidential hopeful Pranab Mukherjee will write to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking her support for his candidature, sources said on Monday.
The Trinamool Congress supremo is said to be opposed to Pranab's candidature. She proposed APJ Abdul Kalam's name as her choice and even went to the extent of launching a Facebook page to explain her support for the former president.
The UPA, however, stuck to its guns and announced Pranab Mukherjee as its Presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, former speaker PA Sangma too has joined the race claiming it his democratic right. He, too, has been seeking the West Bengal Chief Minister's support for his candidature.
