Chennai: Tamil Nadu government on Monday denied reports that the state's fishermen were attacked allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy on April 2.
"A section of the media reported that Tamil fishermen were attacked by Sri Lankan Navy on April 2. On investigation, we found that the reports were not true," Fisheries Minister K A Jayapal told the Assembly.
Such an event "did not happen" on April 2 and all the 504 fishing boats that ventured into the sea returned on April 3, he said, adding, they were not attacked.
"However, our Chief Minister has been writing letters to the Centre on this (attacks on fishermen). She has written six letters in these 10 months," Jayapal said.
