Kolkata: After being attacked by the Opposition, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee is now facing criticism from her own party members. Singer and Trinamool Congress MP Kabir Suman spoke out against the numerous rape incidents reported across the state. "I feel very very concerned over one rape after the other," he said. "What's going on in Mamata Banerjee's mind, I don't know, I find this strange, specially the Park Street incident," he added.
Earlier this week, a hearing impaired patient was allegedly raped by a junior doctor at Bankura Medical College. The incident came at a time when the West Bengal government was facing flak over rising rape cases in the state.
Earlier this month, two cases of rape were reported in Kolkata. A 30-year-old woman was also allegedly raped by a gang of armed robbers. Earlier, a woman was allegedly raped in a moving car in Kolkata. The woman, a mother of two, also accused the policemen of misbehaving with her and mocking her.
Kabir Suman also expressed concern over increasing political violence in the state. "There's so much violence around. I can't recall when did I live through such a time before this. I am saddened," he said.
