UK: Court rejects Assange bid to reopen case

Press Trust of India | 14-Jun 19:58 PM

London: Britain's Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a final bid by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to reopen his appeal against extradition to Sweden over alleged sex crimes.

The required period for extradition "shall not commence until the 14th day after today", the court said.

Two weeks ago the court rejected 40-year-old Assange's argument that a European arrest warrant for extradition was invalid, the BBC reported.

His lawyers had argued that the decision was based on a legal point that had not been argued in court.

Assange has been on conditional bail and is sought to be extradited to Sweden to face allegation of sex offences, which he denies.
