Mumbai: A bargirl has slapped rape charges against a client who didn't pay her for her sexual favours for months. He allegedly forced himself upon her two days ago, without her consent. Versova police on Thursday arrested Dinesh Jagdish Mandal (46). The victim claims that she met Mandal about three years ago, when he was a regular customer of the bar. He claimed he was besotted with her. She eventually left the bar and began working as a singer in another bar.
Mandal later met her at a party and their romance was rekindled. "When we met at the party, he asked me to leave my job, promising to look after my daily needs. He even arranged for me to shift to another residence in Oshiwara," the victim said. "He used to visit me every day, and we had a physical relationship. In return, he would pay for my rent and my daily expenses. One day, when I told him I wanted to marry him, he replied that he was already married. But promised me that he would treat me better than he treated his wife," she added.
Six months ago, problems started cropping up when Mandal stopped paying her, soon after he went out of business. He and the victim parted ways, only to renew their ties three months later. Disagreements over non-payment continued. Two days ago, the victim received a call from Mandal, who called her to his residence in Versova, where he allegedly forced himself upon her.
Fed up with Mandal, the woman approached the Versova police and registered a rape case against him. According to the Versova police, Mandal called the bargirl and forcibly had sex with her. "Mandal, even after keeping a physical relationship with her, stopped paying her, and so the victim approached us. We have registered a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code," said Senior Inspector Sharad Borse of the Versova police station. "The victim claimed that Mandal had a relationship with another woman, and he only kept her to maintain a physical relationship," added Borse.
