WB: Rape victim says she was turned away by police

CNN-IBN | 26-Jul 13:25 PM

Kolkata: The police in West Bengal have suspended a sub inspector after a 38-year-old rape victim alleged police callousness. The woman says she was robbed and raped on Wednesday evening, but was denied help by a traffic policeman nearby.

The victim says she was bleeding profusely, but the traffic policeman asked her to go to a police station to lodge a complaint. When she did, the staff at the police station turned her away ordering her to clean herself up first, she claimed.

The FIR in the case was registered six hours after the incident happened. The victim has now been admitted to a government hospital.
